Under the conditions of the energy crisis, the demand for nuclear energy is growing significantly

Written by Department of information and public relations

Minister of Energy Viktor Karankevich drew attention to this when speaking at a panel session of the state corporation Rosatom as part of the Russian Energy Week, the Official telegram channel of the Ministry of Energy informs.

“Under the conditions of the growing energy crisis, access to a reliable, environmentally friendly, cost-effective source of electricity has become a priority for many states,” Viktor Karankevich noted.

He recalled that in 2008 a strategic decision for Belarus was made - to build its own nuclear power plant. This large-scale project was included in the Energy Security Concept and is designed to significantly increase the country's energy self-sufficiency.

“Belarus has relied on the development of nuclear energy, which has a great innovative, production and technical potential. As time has shown, it was the right choice,” the head of the Ministry of Energy stressed.

The implementation of the project created opportunities to meet the growing demand for electricity from both industrial enterprises and the population. With the commissioning of two power units, the BelNPP will annually produce about 18.5 billion kWh of electricity, or about 40% of the country's domestic needs.
