The Ukrainian company PAO Energomashspetsstal (based in Kramatorsk, part of Atomenergomash, the mechanical engineering division of the Russian state corporation Rosatom), has sent on its way a large batch of intermediate parts for the Belarusian nuclear power plant, BelTA learned from Inna Vavulina, OAO Atomenergomash’s Press Secretary.

The batch of intermediate parts has been sent to OAO AEM Technologies, which makes equipment for the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The parts have gone through the entire processing cycle and will be used to make the first and second power-generating units of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. This batch includes components for the main circulation line, a steam generator, and the main circulating pump. The total weight of the shipped products is 358.3 tonnes.

In line with the contract Energomashspetsstal will make a total of 4,568 tonnes of intermediate parts.

The construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast uses the AES-2006 design. The power plant will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW). The Russian merged company OAO NIAEP – ZAO ASE is the general designer and the general contractor of the project. In line with the general contract for building the nuclear power plant the first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2018, with the second one to go online in 2020.

PAO Energomashspetsstal is Ukraine’s largest manufacturer of special cast and forged products for custom-made and small-series products used in metallurgy, ship construction, energy industry, and general mechanical engineering industry. Energomashspetsstal’s products are known in over 50 countries across the globe. OAO Atomenergomash is the mechanical engineering division of the Russian state corporation Rosatom. Atomenergomash provides effective comprehensive solutions for nuclear power industry, heat power industry, gas, oil, and chemical industries. The company comprises about 30 major manufacturing, research, and engineering enterprises in Russia and abroad.

A complex inspection of the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant involving Russian specialists will take place on 27 October – 6 November, BelTA learned from the Public Relations Office of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry.

The inspection will look into measures meant to ensure the safe construction of the second power-generating unit, in particular, the foundations of the buildings and structures, and the first power-generating unit. The nuclear power plant is a technically complicated installation, therefore, its construction oversight is complex and includes the verification of safety practices in various fields — nuclear and radiation, industrial, fire safety, and environmental ones. The inspection will cover several areas concerning the fulfillment of license requirements and conditions by the enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant and the observance of the relevant legislation during the construction of the nuclear power plant.

The comprehensive inspection will involve representatives of government agencies and their structural units, which are in charge of overseeing the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The number will include representatives of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department and the Safe Industrial Practices Department of the Emergencies Ministry, and the State Standardization Committee. “Apart from Belarusian specialists experienced Russian colleagues — representatives of the FSUE VO Safety — will take part in the inspection as advisors,” noted the press service.

So far this year the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry has organized and carried out six inspections in the form of constant oversight over the measures meant to ensure the safe construction of the first and second power-generating units of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The six inspections included one complex inspection. The inspections resulted in recommendations and instructions that the inspected organizations had to fulfill.

BelTA reported earlier that a structural division of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry will be permanently deployed at the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant by the end of 2014.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near the town of Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using the design AES-2006 developed by the Saint Petersburg-based R&D company Atomenergoproject. The Belarusian nuclear power plant will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW). The Russian merged company OAO NIAEP – ZAO ASE is the general designer and the general contractor of the project. In line with the general contract for building the nuclear power plant the first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2018, with the second one to go online in 2020.

The pilot stage of the informational and educational project “Teachers’ Day at the NPP” has been implemented at the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP), BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry.

The project was developed together with the education, sport and tourism department of the Ostrovets District Executive Committee. The goal of the project is to educate local teachers about the Belarusian nuclear energy program, inform them about the course of the construction and peculiarities of the BelNPP. The first group of teachers from Ostrovets District – a total of 47 people – has recently visited the Belarusian nuclear power plant.

“We will keep educating the pedagogical community about the nuclear energy. In the near future, the information center and the BelNPP construction site will welcome another group of teachers from Ostrovets District,” the Energy Ministry informed. The senior management of the BelNPP has plans to expand the geography of the project and invite teachers from other regions to tour the nuclear power plant.

The Russian merged company OAO NIAEP – ZAO ASE is the general designer and the general contractor of the project. The AES-2006 design developed by the Saint Petersburg-based R&D company Atomenergoproject has been chosen for building Belarus’ first nuclear power plant. The first power-generating unit of the nuclear power plant is scheduled for launch in 2018, the second one in 2020.

A seminar involving experts and consultants of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) took place at premises of the enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant to discuss the development of competencies of the operating company at the third stage of the nuclear energy program, BelTA learned from representatives of the Public Relations Office of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant.

The event took place on 14-16 October and was part of the IAEA’s international technical aid project meant to support the development of human resources and the infrastructure for the nuclear energy program in 2014-2016. The seminar gathered nuclear energy specialists from Russia, Hungary, and Czechia.

Specialists of the International Atomic Energy Agency were made familiar with the state of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, carried out an educational seminar for specialists of the Belarusian enterprise to cover the commissioning of the nuclear power plant as well as functions and competences of the operating company. The international experts noted that the action plan developed by the Republic of Belarus after the IAEA mission visited the country in 2012 had been fulfilled unwaveringly. From the point of view of IAEA representatives the seminar’s results were secured, which can be used as the foundation for establishing tighter and longer term relations with experienced operating companies, BelTA has been told.

IAEA experts and consultants also visited the construction site to be made familiar with the progress of construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.
