"The nuclear power plant itself is a grandiose project that solves a lot of problems. It solves the problem of not just payback, it is a matter of energy security. We are moving away from one type of fuel used and diversifying the supply and quantity of purchased fuel. We are improving the environment. The amount of emissions is decreasing. At the same time, we are resolving issues by providing our economy with electricity," said Vladimir Bobrov.
He noted that in the late 90s and early 2000s there were a lot of disputes about how Belarusian energy industry would develop. “This does not mean that in 2006 three or four people from the Academy of Sciences and the government sat down and decided that there should be a nuclear power plant. This is quite a serious work - a study, an outline of what we should do. Not only the choice of the site where the nuclear power plant will be located, but also what power lines should go there and give this energy to the republic. A lot of issues were resolved with the development of the social structure of the surrounding regions, this is also important," the First Deputy Director General recalled.
Along with this, Vladimir Bobrov stressed that the most important task was to ensure that nuclear energy was peaceful and safe.
