Karankevich: the draft Constitution responds to the challenges of our time and takes into account new opportunities for the development of the country

Written by BelTA

The new version of the Constitution responds to the challenges of our time and takes into account new opportunities for the development of the country. Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich told a BelTA correspondent about this.

"Since the adoption of the Constitution, Belarus has come a long way as a sovereign independent state. Much has changed both in terms of social development and modernization of the national economy - its innovative and technological renewal. Changes to the Basic Law of the country have filled it with new content, taking into account new opportunities and directions development of the economy. One of the priorities is nuclear energy," Viktor Karankevich said.

With the launch of the first unit of the nuclear power plant, Belarus became a member of the nuclear powers and took a serious step in strengthening energy security, the minister stressed. "The project has become a good stimulus for the development of related industries: industry, construction, science, education, medicine. Today, no one doubts that BelNPP is an important element in the country's sustainable development, increasing its energy independence," he said.

"Nuclear energy is our future, the inclusion of this area in the Constitution will be a worthy response to the challenges that exist at the global level, which we have to face taking into account the rise in prices for traditional energy resources in the world markets. Our country will be provided with a reliable, economical and environmentally friendly source of energy for decades forward. This is a great competitive advantage for the economy," Viktor Karankevich said.

"The new version of the Constitution is the basis for the future development of Belarus, a guarantor of stability and protection of the interests of our citizens. It is important that all conditions have been created in the country for their wide discussion. Dialogue platforms with the participation of experts, scientists, parliamentarians also work in the system of the Ministry of Energy. Their task is not only to explain all the changes to the Constitution, but also to collect proposals coming from labor teams. As can be seen from such meetings, people are primarily interested in maintaining social guarantees, prospects for youth policy, strengthening family values and other issues related to the life of the country," the minister concluded.
