The parties discussed the administrative issues of arranging and making a partner review, which involves the study of the national plan by a group of ENSREG experts led by the head of the Finnish nuclear safety regulatory body Petteri Tiippan. They also considered the formation of questions to the national plan, answers to them by the Belarusian side, technical consultations of European experts with Belarusian colleagues, a visit of ENSREG experts to Belarus with a visit to the Belarusian NPP, as well as preparation of a corresponding report on the partner review.
Stress tests of Belarusian NPP were carried out in 2016. After the accident at the Japanese nuclear power plant "Fukushima", the capabilities of BelNPP to withstand extreme adverse natural impacts and their combination (earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, etc.) were studied.
A partner review of the results of BelNPP stress tests was carried out by ENSREG in 2017-2018. No safety deficiencies (inconsistencies with the requirements of the Belarusian regulatory legal acts based on the IAEA safety standards) were found. ENSREG experts have proposed a number of recommendations that relate to safety margins in excess of the requirements established by regulatory documents and safety standards. Based on the results of stress tests of BelNPP in 2019, a corresponding national action plan was prepared.
