The external plan (protective measures during a radiation accident at a nuclear power plant) was approved in March 2018, the internal plan (measures to protect personnel in the event of a nuclear accident) was approved in May 2018. On the initiative of Belarus, at the final stage of developing an external emergency plan, the draft document was examined by IAEA experts and received a positive assessment.
Among the priorities today are the completion of the licensing process for the operation of unit No.1 of Belarusian NPP, the delivery of nuclear fuel to the site of the nuclear power plant, the development of the methodology and practice of supervisory activities, including the preparation for supervision of the commissioning and operation of the NPP, the development of the state system for preventing emergencies given the construction of a nuclear power plant.
Belarusian nuclear power plant with two VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2,400 MW is being built under the Russian project near Ostrovets (Grodno oblast). The first power unit is planned to be commissioned at the end of 2019, the second - in 2020.
