“Belarusian NPP together with the Department of Nuclear Energy of the Ministry of Energy developed the concept of a technical cooperation project for 2020–2021 - Increasing the operational safety of the Belarusian NPP during commissioning and operation of nuclear power plants.” This project is based on the country's needs at the current stage of the nuclear energy program. Belarus is in the final stages of NPP construction, therefore the priority tasks are to prepare the operating organization for the NPP commissioning and further reliable and safe operation " - said Valery Senyut.
The new program cycle of technical cooperation between Belarus and the IAEA will help in the development of a personnel training system, the implementation of an integrated management system, the improvement of safety culture.
The key structures that will be involved in the technical cooperation project are the Department of Nuclear Energy of the Ministry of Energy, state-owned enterprise Belarusian NPP and the State Production Association Belenergo. In addition, the project will involve the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
Valery Senyut reminded that Belarus is actively participating in the IAEA technical cooperation program. The interaction is built in accordance with the priority areas of cooperation defined in the framework document “Structure of the IAEA Technical Cooperation Program for Belarus”. According to this document, the key areas of cooperation between Belarus and the IAEA are the development of the nuclear energy infrastructure to prepare for the operation of Belarusian NPP, strengthening nuclear and radiation safety and readiness and response systems in case of a nuclear or radiation emergency, the use of nuclear technologies in medicine, the rehabilitation of regions affected from the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
