Belarus will continue to develop cooperation in nuclear safety with the participants of the WWER Forum

Written by BelTA

Belarus will continue to develop cooperation in the field of nuclear safety with the participants of the Forum of Regulators of Countries Operating Water-Water Energetic Reactors (WWER). This year's annual meeting of the WWER Forum was held in Belarus for the first time, BelTA learned from the Gosatomnadzor.

"Being a newcomer among the states developing nuclear energy, Belarus attaches great importance to participation in international associations of nuclear safety regulators. The exchange of experience at professional international sites obtains up-to-date information on best practices in nuclear and radiation safety, analyzing it, adapting and applying it in Belarus," the Gosatomnadzor noted.

The meeting was held at the site of Belarusian NPP with the participation of representatives of 12 countries and organizations (Belarus, Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, Iran, China, Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Finland, Czech Republic and IAEA). The participants discussed the issues of ensuring the safety of WWER reactors, the results and prospects for the activity of the working groups on the use of probabilistic safety analysis in regulatory activities and the analysis of reactor physics. In addition, they visited the construction site and got acquainted with the progress of the construction of the nuclear power plant.

The Forum of Regulatory Authorities of Countries Operating WWER reactors was established in 1993. Its purpose is to promote security and radiation protection in interested countries by using collective experience, sharing information and integrating the efforts of national regulatory authorities to address security issues and improve regulatory policies and practices.

Currently, the members of the WWER Forum are the heads of the regulatory bodies of Armenia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Russia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Finland, Ukraine, India, Iran and China. The representatives of Germany and IAEA, from 2015 - Belarus working as observers.
