Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant practiced actions in the event of a threat of radiation contamination from a neighboring state

Written by Department of information and public relations

On March 27, 2026, an emergency response drill was conducted at Belarusian NPP with the participation of personnel from the civil defense monitoring and laboratory control network (MLCN) of the enterprise.

The event was attended by personnel from the radiation safety workshop, the station shift supervisor, and other responsible structural units.

According to the emergency drill scenario, the destruction of spent fuel containers at a nuclear power plant located in a neighboring country resulted in the release of radioactive substances into the atmosphere, and meteorological conditions contributed to their transfer to Grodno, Minsk, and Vitebsk regions.

During the exercise, the MLCN personnel's procedures were worked out and an assessment of the time spent on alerting, gathering, and preparing the civil defense surveillance and laboratory control network's forces and resources was conducted.

Belarusian NPP personnel demonstrated a high degree of cooperation, good practical skills in rapid response and implementation of urgent protective measures.
