This was stated today by Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich during the opening ceremony of the Belarusian exposition on the sidelines of the 65th session of the IAEA General Conference, which provides information on the achievements of Belarus in nuclear energy, the implementation of the project for the construction of BelNPP, as well as on the development of the social and economic infrastructure of the atomic scientists city Ostrovets.

The readiness of the second unit of BelNPP is almost 90%. Now hot trial of the reactor system is going. This year, nuclear fuel will be loaded into the core of the reactor of the second power unit of BelNPP. This will initiate the physical start-up phase of the unit. Its commissioning is planned for 2022.

The Minister expressed gratitude to the IAEA Secretariat for significant support and the opportunity to actively use the entire range of Agency tools during the construction of the NPP, including those provided within the framework of technical cooperation projects.

“Nuclear and radiation safety is an unconditional priority for our country, and we strictly adhere to it, developing cooperation with our international partners on the principles of openness and transparency,” Viktor Karankevich stressed.
