Professions in nuclear energy in universities are being transformed to meet the needs of the economy – Dulinets

Written by BelTA

Professions in the field of nuclear energy in universities are being transformed taking into account the needs of the economy. This was announced by Deputy Director of the Department of Nuclear Energy of the Ministry of Energy Lilia Dulinets during the Nuclear Technology Day at BNTU, BelTA has learned.

After a decision was made on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Belarus, the HR issue became particularly relevant. The emphasis was placed on training Belarusian specialists; new specialties opened in leading universities of the country. The first young specialists came to Belarusian NPP in 2013. They are also in demand in the Ministry of Emergencies, environmental and other organizations.

"Now we are not increasing the number of specialties, but some are being transformed according to need. For example, we had specialties such as the construction of nuclear power plants, and steam generating plants for nuclear power plants. Starting next year, we will be recruiting for the specialty Design and Operation of NPPs." This is most in demand today, and if we train 20-30 specialists, there will be a constant replenishment, a resource for our country's nuclear energy," Lilia Dulinets said.

Nuclear Technology Day is being held for the fourth time and has already become a traditional event. Students related to nuclear technologies participate in it: nuclear energy, science. “Tomorrow, these students will ensure the safe operation of Belarusian NPP, which will operate for at least 60 years. They must have the necessary knowledge that they will constantly replenish and improve. It is important that the students understand what awaits them in the future, on what professional path they are entering. They need to make sure that they have made the right choice," the deputy director of the department said. She emphasized that the field of atomic technologies is developing dynamically, therefore, specialists will need to constantly improve their qualifications, receive new knowledge, skills.

Atomic Technology Day is an educational and entertainment event for students of Belarus. The event is organized by the state corporation Rosatom with the support of the Ministry of Energy of Belarus, the Atomic Energy Information Center and Belarusian National Technical University. The main goal of the Atomic Technology Day is to popularize technical education among young people.

Belarusian nuclear power plant with two VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2,400 MW is being built under Russian project near Ostrovets (Grodno oblast). The general contractor for the construction of BelNPP is the engineering division of the state corporation Rosatom (ASE).
